Floor & Tables

Floor & Tables is the list of tables at one outlet: what each table is called, how many it seats and which section it is in. Every surface that deals in tables reads this one list — the POS register, the captain handheld, the kiosk’s table picker, reservations and table QR codes — so a table renamed here is renamed everywhere.

The work is split in two, deliberately:

  • This page owns a table’s identity — its name, seats, section and whether it is in use.
  • The register owns the layout — where each table sits on the floor plan, its shape and size. A manager draws it on the POS register, where the floor is.

The page shows a read-only Floor preview of the layout as the register last saved it. A table added here but not yet placed on the plan shows as Not placed, and the page tells you when the layout has not been set up on the register at all.

Fill in the form at the top of the page and choose Add. Choosing the pencil on a row loads that table into the same form; Save keeps the change.

FieldWhat it does
Table nameWhat staff and guests see — “12”, “Patio 3”, “Bar 1”. Up to 20 characters
SectionGroups tables on the floor and in reservations. Type a new name to create a section; leave it blank for the default section
SeatsOptional. Seeds the covers prompt when a party is seated, and decides which tables can take a booking of a given size
Default turn (minutes)Optional. How long a booking holds this table, overriding the outlet’s default

Renaming is an edit, not a new table: the table keeps its QR code and its place on the floor plan. Use the arrows on each row to set the order tables appear in within their section.

If the outlet kept a simple list of dine-in table names before this page existed, Import from the old list copies those names in. Names already here are skipped, so it is safe to run twice.

Deactivate takes a table out of service: it stops appearing on the register, the handheld, the kiosk’s picker and every ordering surface. Past orders still show it. Deactivated tables stay on the page, dimmed, with Restore to bring them back — a table is never deleted, because orders and reports refer to it.

Each active table can carry its own QR code, the one printed on the sticker or stand at that table:

  • Generate creates a table’s first code.
  • Replace issues a new code for that table. The old sticker stops working straight away; only that table is affected. Use it when a sticker is damaged, photographed or stuck on the wrong table, and print the new one before the next service.
  • Print QR sheet prints the codes for every active table on one sheet, each labelled with its table and the outlet’s name. Printing never changes a code. A table that has no code yet is left off the sheet and named in a warning, so generate it first.

The code itself is never shown on screen — it identifies the table to whoever scans it, so it belongs only on the printed sticker. A deactivated table keeps its code but the code stops working until the table is restored. What a guest sees after scanning is covered in Dine-in QR ordering.

  • The POS register draws the floor plan from these tables and seats parties on them. Each table’s live state — free, seated, ordered, paying — is shown on the plan. See POS register.
  • The captain handheld shows the same tables, grouped by section, and can be set to open on one section. See Captain handheld.
  • Reservations are matched to tables by seats and section. See Reservations.
